Animal Description:

The Honduran Yellow Brown Scorpion is considered a fast species of scorpion.

There are no reports that the Yellow Brown Scorpion has contributed to a human death, though they are seen on the LD-50 chart (lethal dose for 50% of test animals). This species is considered to be medically insignificant. They are considered to be an aggressive species by some, but actually much more defensive than aggressive.

This is a more visually stimulating species, compared to some others. It is not uncommon for them to stay outside of their hides even during the daytime, though they only grow to an average length of 3.5-4 inches.

This species is not often available in the pet trade, though quite a number do exist in the hobby. This species is often classified as "untouchable" due to their rapid speed and ability to become escapees and difficulty to recover. The sting is said to be equivalent to that of a Hornet and localized pain and swelling are expected at the site of the sting.

Specific Care Information: Relative Care Ease: Relatively Difficult

The Honduran Yellow Brown Scorpion should be kept on bark with large pieces of vertical bark to climb and hide inside. A shallow water dish should be provided. In the wild this scorpion species lives in banana plantations and therefore should be kept in a high humidity environment. 80% humidity is required as well as maintaining a temperature between 80-85 degrees Fahrenheit. A ten-gallon aquarium is recommended for small communities, though an individual scorpion can be kept in a smaller enclosure. Young can be fed pinhead crickets and adults can be fed medium sized insect, such as adult crickets. They should be fed a varying diet of insects.

This species is not recommended for inexperienced hobbyists due to its speed and relative aggressiveness.

Breeding and Propagation: Relative Breeding Ease: Relatively Easy

Breeding is considered relatively easy because, unlike some scorpions, Honduran Yellow Brown Scorpions can be kept together and will naturally breed if requirements are met.
