The Cobalt Blue Tarantula is a very aggressive tarantula native to Mvanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Burma, and Thailand. Quite rare in the wild, the Cobalt Blue is becoming more popular in captivity. Because of its aggressive nature and artistry at escaping, the Cobalt Blue Tarantula is usually not recommended for beginning keepers or for arachnophobes. Living in the tropical forests of Burma and Thailand has adapted the Cobalt Blue Tarantula to both high temperatures and high humidity. They prefer humidity of about 85%. The Cobalt Blue is a burrowing spider and lives in the deep networks of burrows it builds underground. However, they also build webs on the ground. They are considered one of the most aggressive tarantulas in the world. While they may seem quite calm, that does not mean they will not be aggressive if provoked in the slightest way. As well as being one of the most aggressive, the Cobalt Blue is also considered one of the most beautiful tarantulas in the world. As adults, they average about four or five inches in diameter. They derive their name for the color of the legs, which appear black in some lights, but in others are an iridescent electric blue. The Cobalt Blue's abdomen is dark gray or brown with chevron-like stripes, while the carapace is light brown. |
