The Urals Rex originated in the Urals region of Russia. The Urals Rex comes in two varieties, shorthair and semi-longhair, the former being the most popular. They have a typical wavy rex coat, with well-formed muscular, strong bodies. In spite of their muscles and strength, the Urals Rex is not a large feline. Their rounded face is triangular. The tail of the Urals Rex is often seen having a tufted tip. Some hold that this cat was discovered in 1991, while others maintain it has been in existence since at least the Second World War. Genetically, the mutation causing the Rex features of this cat differs from that of the Cornish Rex. Its relationship to the Devon Rex is largely unknown. It will be interesting to watch this breed and see how it develops. |
