Animal Description: Breed Standard

Considered by some to be a distinct breed, Rex cats are some of the most stunning cats in the world. They possess silky, curly coats not normally found among felines. The majority of the research states that the term 'Rex' denotes a class of cats rather than a specific breed. Rex cats are reported to have less allergic response than other breeds. Many people recomend Rex Cats for those with cat allergies.

There are twelve accepted Rex breeds; Bohemia Rex, California Rex, Cornish Rex, Devon Rex, Dutch Rex, Missouri Rex, Ohio Rex, Oregon Rex, Selkirk Rex, Urals Rex, German Rex and Si-Rex. There is also a variation of Maine Coone called the 'Rexed Coon', but whether or not this cat actually has Rex blood, is a matter of debate. Some historical Rex cats that are no longer being developed, are the Prussian Rex (1930), Karakul Cat (1930s) and the Italian Rex.
