Animal Description: Breed Standard

The American Rabbit comes in two popular varieties, and with its sleek, pure appearance and docile personality, is not a breed to miss!

With its gorgeous coat, the American Rabbit makes a very popular show animal and friend! It has a docile personality but requires regular grooming to prevent it from becoming sick from fur consumption or matting! Your care will be rewarded by your American Rabbit's beauty and friendship.

The American Rabbit weighs ten pounds, with does a pound larger than bucks. They come in two colors: blue and white. The Blue American Rabbit is one of the darkest blue breeds of rabbit! It has blue eyes and is a rich slate blue color, which is deep, clear, and carried down to the skin through the thick fur. The White American Rabbit is a pristine, sparkling white color throughout and has pink eyes. American Rabbits have mandolin shaped bodies that are slightly arched. They have a bright, sleek, alert appearance and are of medium size.

Developed in 1917 by Lewis H. Salisbury, the American Rabbit rocketed in popularity to become the most popular American breed of rabbit! Today American Rabbits are highly valued as pets and show animals and the Blue and White are shown as separate varieties.
